On a recent trip to Charleston South Carolina, I went to visit the legendary blacksmith artist Phillip Simmons. I
was informed by his cousin Joseph Simmons that Phillip retired in 2007 at the age of 94 and now resides in a rest
home. Phillip Simmons passed away 2 weeks later at the age of 96. His memory lives on in the incredible Ironwork
he created throughout Charleston and around the United States. I spent an entire day walking the streets of
Charleston and viewing his magnificent creations of amazing iron artistry. I dedicate this piece to his memory and
our common bond of creating iron work the old fashioned way, by hand.
